VA Bus Stop at Clinic: Have made contact with owner and some progress is being made. However, need to have someone

Meeting commenced with Chairman Clark V
Chairman Selvage – Citrus Connection and V Chairman Selvage is working on getting the bus to stop directly in front
of the Lakeland CBOC. Chairman Clark ask individuals to introduce them self.
V Chairman - Referendum, ½ cent sales
tax for transportation to fund county wide bus service and increase Lakeland service. For those who live
in Lakeland the ½ cent already being paid by Lakeland citizens will go away and the ½ cent sales tax will be
distributed among all county citizens. If this does not pass the PCVC will have to discuss how we can help
our disabled veterans to move around Polk Co. Many of the homeless, approximately 10% are veterans; a better
bus service can help the brothers and sisters. Bob Fick from Blinded Veterans would like to have the roster of
Veteran Organizations update his data base. 9/11 event was expected to bring in approximately 300-400 people and
brought in over 1,000. The date for the 9/11 event will be on September 10, 2011 in Downtown Winter Haven. Veterans
Day Event – FDOT approved parade, Chairman Clark will meet with LPD pertaining to Parade Route, Lakeland Center for
Chairs and parking. The Memorial Ceremony will start at 1000 hours, November 6, 2010, Saturday. Lakeland
HS may present the Colors; the National Anthem signer is in the works by Digger, (USMVMC). V Chairman Selvage
reviewed various other events scheduled for the Veterans Day Ceremony. V Chairman Selvage reviewed the
Veterans Day Program. Lisa Garcia from the DAV Chapter 28 will do the benediction.
Please arrive for the parade line up prior to 0930. The Veterans Day Parade – will run similar to the same
as we did last year. Marine Corp League donated $150.00 to get golf carts for the Veterans Day Parade.

Patriotic Fest at Munn Park – If anyone
wants to be at the park please let Melissa know. If anyone wants to fund the Rock Climbing Wall, please
let Melissa know. The cost is approximately $400.00 for 2 hours Please E-mail Msanchez1125@hotmail.com. There are approximately 41 organizations who are participating as of now.
Toys for Tots will be at Munn Park. Flyers were distributed for the Veterans Day event at Sun-N-Fun. Christmas
Parade – The PCVC has been accepted to enter into the Lakeland Christmas Parade. Mike Carew spoke
of the event and asked if people were willing to volunteer to help build the float. Mike will send the
PCVC Webmaster a link to a video produce so the Veterans of Polk County can see the theme of the float. Debbie & Bo from
Divers 4 Heroes – did a short presentation explaining what they do. They teach disabled veterans
how to dive. Anyone interested in submitting a veteran for this program or sending financial support, please
contact them at www.divers4heroes.org American Legion Riders – Bricks of Pride – the next phase is getting under way. PCVC
– N. Lisa Garcia Veterans Scholarship program was briefed to the Council members.

Toys for Tots, could use some help distributing boxes and pick up toys. Anyone interested please contact
Bernie (202-TOTS) Polk Works – Job Fair coming up October 28, 2010 at PSC Winter Haven campus. AL
Post 4 – would like to state Veterans Memorial Park should be named Heroes Park. Cadillac
USMVMC – Wreath Across America is now underway, USMVMC sponsors Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
Last year they laid over 2,500 wreaths. To sponsor a wreath cost $15.00, they will be loaded on
a truck at Saddlecreek and will leave at 0815 hours on Dec 11, 2010.

meeting Tuesday September 7, 2010 American Legion Post 8 Chairman Clark opened
the meeting with discussion of the Winter Haven Patriotic Fest for September 11, 2010 in Downtown Winter Haven.
Participation from various veterans’ organization, fire departments and law enforcement officers from throughout
Polk County. Chairman Clark discussed
the master plan of Veterans Memorial Park. Yellow Ribbon in the park is placed for the 116 FA and will
be up until they return. Chairman
Clark introduced Jamie from Marine Families of Polk County. The new VA clinic in Lakeland has a bus stop that is too far away, Vice Chairman Selvage is working
with the property owners in the area of the VA clinic to have a bus stop closer to the clinic. ½ cent sales tax will be on the ballot for bus transportation,
many veterans in Polk county depend on the public transportation to get to their VA appointments. Working with Tiger Town for Armed Forces Day, and working with
Lakeland Funeral Home for Memorial Day. Veterans
Memorial Park may be renamed to Independence Park due to the number of agencies having a stake in the park. Veterans Day theme will be a salute to Women Veterans. Sun N Fun event/Fund Raiser – 1940’s
Big Band Dance on Veterans Day. The
Polk County Veterans Council will be participating in the 2010 Lakeland Christmas Parade. Mike Carew explained
the design of the Parade Float, December 2, 2010 will be the parade, with the theme of the parade as Christmas Stories. George – Sales Manager of Azalea Park,
announced a new AMVET Post #36 at Azalea Park. American Legion Post #4 – Protest the change of the name from Veterans Memorial Park. Marine Families of Polk County – Marine Corps Ball –
Looking for sponsor as low as $50 and will help pay the way for a wounded veterans to attend. 9-18-10 American Legion District 7 family Picnic – information
posted on the Polk County Veterans council website, location at AL Post #3. AMVETS Post 32 – $14,000 out of Operation Freedom Funds Round table introductions. Next meeting: AMVETS Post 36 – Azalea Park –

– Mike Mason w/ Polk Works mentioned Sears Rebuild Together program. Veterans who are low income and need assistance
with home repairs may qualify for the program. There is a large amount of paperwork involved and you must own your own home.

the Day Saturday, September 11 @ Winter Haven. 17:00 hrs Entertainment, Warrior Walk, Bagpipes and Static

War, Iraq/Afghan Goal is to become a Countywide Event supported by the city of Winter Haven. Vets monument downtown is coming along. Press release

is @ $15,000.00. *There is a referendum concerning Polk County transportation issues pending. The result of the referendum
will decide the future of public transportation in Polk County. This is an issue important to veterans. Sun & Fun is having a veteran’s event, more info to come.New AMVETS Post will be located at Azalea Park off Harden Blvd. August 28th at 4pm they are holding a free
veterans event. All are invited
to attend.Christmas Parade Float: The
theme this year is “Christmas Stories”. Melissa Sanchez, Mike Carew and Mike Mason will be concentrating on the
float. Anyone is invited to assist in the preparation and execution of the first Christmas parade PCVC float. More info to
come.July 31 – Warrior Walk was a huge success. Over 1200 people in
attendance. Melissa thanked Don and Gary for their support, along with everyone else who helped with the event in some fashion.
Very grateful for the support, and looking forward to a bigger and better event next year on Sat July 30th 2011 / First Presbyterian

Heart mentioned a “Wounded Warriors” book given by the Tampa Area Marine Parents Association. They are free, and
you can request them online. Melissa Sanchez also has approx 6 copies left if anyone would like one. Please contact Melissa.Tom Bazley,
U.S.A.F. veteran spoke about a scholarship he is working on putting together to benefit children of fallen OIF/OEF Heroes.

– Monday, 14 June 2010 Kiwanis Club had a Flag Folding Ceremony that was well received. Armed
Forces Day: The Veterans Armed Forces Day Grant was written as such and that is why the thrust of the event was
in that direction. Gary Clark suggested some changes for the event next year. Will reach out to all Veterans including homeless
to assist them in acquiring veteran entitled services for which they may be eligible. Bus Shelter request has

Home”. Melissa Sanchez has agreed to Co-Chair with ALR Brat and the PCVC approved the recommendation of the float

COUNCIL April 2010 Minutes Chairman Clark reviewed and discussed the following
items: 1. Meeting commenced at American Legion Post 4 at 1735 hours. 2.
Park Yellow Ribbon Campaign: Insure Veteran’s Park ribbons are in good shape. 3. OIF/OEF
Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 27th at the: Community Southern Bank Meeting Room 3340 S Florida Avenue 4.
Hands for the Homefront: Sep 11 event in Winter Haven to be supported by the Council working with the WH chamber and “Hands
for the Homefront.” Event will honor Veterans, Firefighters/EMS and Law Enforcement. 5.
May 15 Armed Forces Day Event: Meeting scheduled for April 14 to review actions. Need to get word out to all organizations.
Funds will be collected for Wreaths. 6. Memorial Day: Lakeland Funeral Home –
Digger working details. Chairman will secure speaker. 7. Park Plans—Draft forthcoming.
Chairman and Vice Chairman have met with all the key City of Lakeland departments to discuss plans and secure support.
Other organizations have been added to the monument. 8. Veterans Day will spotlight female
veterans. Chairman is working on a guest speaker. 9. Lakeland Christmas Parade.

Minutes from PCVC meeting- Minutes from PCVC meeting Polk County Veterans Council March 8, 2010 Host – AMVETS Post #32 Chairman Clark started the meeting by pay respects
to SSG Reiner’s Polk
County History Fair – PCVC gave out 10 Savings bonds and the legion gave out 2 $50 prizes. The turnout
was greater than there was in the past. The intent of the History Fair is to remind people of what did
happen in history, in our case, particularly military history. Chairman Clark has taken care of the savings
Bonds. The Armed
Forces Day (May 15th) event at Joker Marchent Stadium, a Veterans Stand Down, to include the Medical bus from the
James A Haley VA Hospital, along with other Veterans organization. The Ball game is free to all veterans.
The plan is to have some military inductions out on the ball field. Memorial Day at Lakeland Memorial Gardens will be approximately 1200 hours with AMVETS
having a BBQ. Please keep an eye on the PCVC website for updates. Veterans Memorial Park, the master plan is still
in progress, the yellow ribbon was replaced at the beginning of March by Polk Works Veterans Representatives.
Melissa explained the purpose of the ribbon and her intent to maintain the yellow ribbon up until the return of the
2/166th FA. Veterans Day, Saturday November 6, 2010 – Honoring our Sister Veterans - Still
looking for a key note speaker – Women have played a role in our military since the beginning of the inception of this
country. Wreaths
Across America – U.S.M.V.M.C. set a goal of 98,000 wreaths, the number of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines buried
at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. The cost is $15.00 to sponsor a wreath and they can be ordered
all year long. Christmas
Parade – Chairman Clark asked if the council was still interested in participating by providing a float in the Lakeland
Christmas Parade. Linda from the ALR will look at the paperwork, Mike from Polk Works, Joe from DAV, and
Melissa from PCVC will look into the float. Doug – AMVETS – Tax ID Number – Would like to research the details of getting a
501C19. Roger (Legion Post 4) will research as well. LA MeSSG – Multiple Sclerosis Poker Run – March 27, 2010 Polk Works – Friends of

Estates – Women’s craft donated 6 knitted quilts to the Veteran at the VA VAV – Chili Cook Off – was a great turn
out VAV wants to thank everyone who participated. ALR – Divers for Heroes – Deep sea divers, on Edgewood Dr, allowed divers
for heroes who go to VA Hospital and train disabled veteran, who have been released by the Dr. and allowed to be trained to
Scuba Drive. DAV – Wednesday, Strawberry Fest free to vets – DAV-MS Poker Run March 27, 2010. Next meeting – April 12,
2010 – American Legion Post #4 – 1730 Hours.
Minutes from PCVC meeting- Minutes from PCVC meeting Polk County Veterans Council February 1, 2010 Host: VFW Post 2297 1730 hours meeting commences: Chairman Clark – Started by going around the room and letting everyone introduce themselves. Veterans Memorial Park has yellow ribbons around many of the
trees and we want to keep them up while the 116 FA is deployed. We need volunteers to keep the ribbons
in good repair. The Polk County
History Fair is February 26, 2010 at the Old Bartow Courthouse (Museum), AL Post #4 volunteered 3 judges and $200.00 towards
the savings bonds for the winners of the Polk County History Fair. John Hopkins – Polk County Stand Down, to take place at
Tiger Town on Armed Forces Day – May 15th, 2010. Armed Forces Day at Tiger Town will be
a mix of a ball game, Stand Down for Veterans and possibly enlistments of Armed Forces members. A Color
Guard is being requested for the Stand Down, if anyone can volunteer please contact John Hopkins. Veterans Day Theme has been decided – Women Veterans (Our
Sisters in Arms) Looking for a vehicle
and trailer for the 2010 Christmas Parade. Looking for key note speaker for Veterans Day Ceremony, preferable 0-6 or above, the ceremony will focus on a good
key note speaker, and possibly an all female honor guard. A suggestion was made for the PCVC to sponsor some Wreaths across America. Captain Dave Wilson from the U.S. Army Recruiting, Lakeland
Company was promoted from Captain to Major. Next Meeting, March 8, 2010 1730 hours – AMVETS Post #32 Meeting ended at 1825 hours.

MeetingJanuary 11, 2010Host: Amvets Post 321730 HoursChairman Clark started the
meeting by discussing the departure ceremony of the 2/116th FA Battery. Overall he was satisfied with the community outreach
and participation of our Veteran members who participated. The PCVC will start planting the seed for a “Welcome Home”
Ceremony as well. Special thanks was given to Mike LaPan & staff at the Lakeland Center, Tony /LPD, Sheriff ‘s Dept.PCVC
has again been invited to participate in the Polk County History Fair. Participation again was endorsed by all.
Honorees at the event will be presented with $50 US Savings Bonds. Last year bonds were donated by various Council member
organizations. A similar plan is intended this year & any organization who would like to give a savings bond is
asked to contact Chairman Clark. We are also in need of 8 judges to assist that day (morning of February 26th). American Legion
Post 4 would like to participate.Discussion followed on the events proposed for Armed Forces Day at Joker Marchent
Stadium with sponsorship by the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Working with the county, there is a plan to have a “Stand
Down.” If interested in participating in the “Stand Down” please contact John Hopkins. Armed Forces
Day is May 15, 2010.Veterans Memorial Park was also discussed. The Architects have shown a well developed plan
& things are moving on schedule. Chairman Clark will be in contact with them soon.Chairman Clark spoke of the
2010 Veterans Day Parade and Patriotic Festival theme. It was voted on accordingly, and the theme of the 2010 Veterans Day
Parade and Festival will be “Women In The Military”. PCVC is looking for a notable female (preferably Active Duty)
to be the guest speaker at the event, if anyone knows of anyone fitting the description please contact Chairman Clark.Discussion
on PCVC participating in the 2010 Lakeland Christmas Parade with a military themed float. Chairman Clark will look into the
application due date etc… but the overall consensus seemed positive amongst council members. Mike Carew mentioned
a Poker Run coming up to help Veterans in Polk County & Introduced the new Lakeland Polk Works Veterans Assistant Gary
Cottrell. Will provide more info on the poker run at a later date.Paul Flagg with American Legion Post 4 is looking
for old archives from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s referencing the post for their “Centennial Celebration”.
If anyone has any information or artifacts to share please contact AL Post 4.Cadillac (U.S.M.V.M.C. ) – Spoke
of Wreaths across America and thanked everyone for the great participation. They laid 2,524 wreaths on the graves of
our deceased brothers and sisters in Florida National Cemetery (Bushnell) on December 12, 2009. He stated that he looks
forward to the 2010 season and hopes to one day be able to lay wreaths across all headstone and markers for all of our deceased
brothers and sisters at Florida National Cemetery. The next Wreaths across America will be on December 11, 2010. Anyone
wanting to go ahead and purchase wreaths $15.00 each may do so, they are hoping to lay 5,000 wreaths. January 28th
Harley Shop in N. Lakeland will be holding a FREE Veterans Celebration event, flyer on website.Volunteers Assisting
Veterans (VAV) will be having a Spaghetti Dinner (AYCE) on 17 January, 2010 at AMVETS Post #32 from 1500 to 1900 hours –
Cost: $6.00AMVETS Post #32 will have a Chili Cook Off on 27 February, 2010 with a GRAND PRIZE of $1,000 Please
register at AMVETS POST 32 by February 20th. Flyer posted on websiteMelissa Sanchez mentioned all Veterans who can
furnish a DD214 and/OR military ID will receive FREE admission on “American Heroes Day” Wed. March 10th
2010 at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City. Country music artist Aaron Tippin will be performing at 3:30 that day
and there will also be a flag ceremony. Melissa also welcomed Diana with State Farm Insurance and they are looking in

the county, there is a plan to have a “Stand Down.” Armed Forces Day is May 15, 2010. Veterans Memorial Park was also discussed.
The Architects have shown a well developed plan. The plan shows no permanent restrooms but does
show hook ups for temporary restrooms. Steve Jones (CWV) suggested possibly having a display model of the
park at Armed Forces Days to get the public motivated in supporting the park. Chairman Clark asked if there were any Veterans Organizations who could use many decks of playing
cards. Paul Flagg (AL #4) stated that he would check with the James A Haley VA Hospital tonight when he
goes over there for BINGO with the Vets. Chairman Clark spoke of the 2010 Veterans Day Parade and Patriotic Festival theme. He asked for
those who have access to Golf Carts to and other transportation to please start working on this soon. Many
of our older Veterans who wish to participate cannot due to transportation issues. Vice Chairman Selvage
suggested that we have our thoughts together by our next month’s meeting and agree on the 2010 Veterans Day theme. Chairman Clark spoke of the departure of the
2nd Battalion 116th Field Artillery coming up in January. The departure time will
be between 0800 – 1200 hours on January 8, 2010. All citizens are encouraged to participate.
There will be a small ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park before the main ceremony at the Lakeland Center Arena.
A motorcycle escort is requested from the Lakeland Center to I-4 where LPD will depart. Cadillac
from the U.S. Military Veterans motorcycle Club and Gus Garcia from the American Legion Riders suggested
a Motorcycle escort to I-4 and U.S. Hwy 27 (the Polk County Line). Vice Chairman Selvage suggested the
Veterans escort our soldiers from VMP to the Lakeland Center in a precession to honor the 116th. All
personnel who plan to attend please be at Veterans Memorial Park by 0800. Also please keep an eye on the
PCVC website as times and situations can change, information will be posted as soon as it is available. Cadillac (U.S.M.V.M.C. ) – Spoke of Wreaths across America
and thanked everyone for the great participation. They laid 2,524 wreaths on the graves of our deceased
brothers and sisters in Florida National Cemetery (Bushnell) on December 12, 2009. He stated that he looks
forward to the 2010 season and hopes to one day be able to lay wreaths across all headstone and markers for all of our deceased
brothers and sisters at Florida National Cemetery. The next Wreaths across America will be on December

Clark started off by discussing the 2009 Veterans Day Events. He expressed his gratitude for all of those
who helped with the events. LDP, the City of Lakeland, The Lakeland Center, and all of the members of the
PCVC., great job on the Monument, Ceremony, Parade and Celebration. 2010 Veterans Day Events are scheduled for November 6, 2010 the first Saturday of the month.
The Parade Route will remain the same. Chairman Clark discussed a little bit about the master plan of Veterans Memorial Park. On November
18, 2009 at 1400 hours there will be a meeting at Furr & Wegman pertaining to the master Plan of Veterans memorial Park. 116 FA will be deploying soon. Polk County History Fair is coming up again. The
PCVC members have been asked to participate in the Judging again. This will be our third year of participating Armed Forces Day – May 15, 2010, possible

who passed away on Saturday. Chairman
Clark asked everyone to go around and introduce themselves. Chairman Clark spoke about the Veterans Organization Monument; the City of Lakeland has already poured
a foundation for the monument. Chairman Clark passed around a description of the monument.
Please be sure to thank the members of the City of Lakeland for their efforts at Veterans Memorial Park. The memorial ceremony will commence at
1000 hours, please be at Veterans Memorial Park by 0930 hours. If anyone can assist with placing out chair
at the event we would be very grateful. Chairman Clark reviewed the names of organizations who are participating in the events. The Parade will form at 0930 in the south parking
lot of the Lakeland center, please be sure to look for the parade coordinators. For those who need to park
closely there will be space available in the West parking lot, the Lakeland Center will be having a Gun Show on November 7.
If you park in the West Parking lot, please be sure to let the attendant know that you are there for the Veterans
Day Parade. We still need
some golf carts, if anyone knows who can supply some golf carts for the parade, please be sure to contact Chairman Clark. The Parade route was discussed. Shawn McCabe distributed the Munn Park Participants

mirror the diversity of the military. Tangela Love spoke of the 993rd FRG. They will be participating in the

Session, and asked new members to introduce themselves, and discussed a bit about the BRAIVE Fund, and the Florida National
Guard Foundation. Keith Duhouse – VAV, Volunteers Assisting Veterans, Helps veterans who need help. The
VAV helps Veterans locally, Polk County. Chairman Clark spoke of the 2/116 FA Open House, Captain Nate Adams, and the Battalion is getting
ready to deploy, we want to do things to support them. Children of Heroes, was an effort to help the families
of the local units. The Chamber of Commerce of Lakeland, and possibly W/H and Bartow, is working with Chairman
Clark to compile a list of services of reputable business to help the family of deployed soldiers. Veterans Day – November 7, 2009, 3
elements of the celebration, 1; Veterans Ceremony, 2; Veterans Day Parade, 3; Veterans Ceremony. Vice Chairman Selvage stated he is still working on having a
concert by Lakeland Christian School; the Guest Speak is Admiral Norb Ryan. Chairman Clark – AMVETS to provide firing detail; Color Guard possibly from FSC; we need high
school volunteers to help set out chairs. Also help to locate golf carts. Legion and
AMVETS tasked to conduct parade lineup. Participation in the parade is free. Parade
Route, request is ready to be sent in. The Lakeland Center is also having the Lakeland Gun show, so parade
assembly may have to be in the south lot. The monument has been ordered and should be here next week please
send in your contributions to support the monument. The monument is designed so we can add names on later
as other organizations wish to be included. The issue is that organizations which do not have the funds
will still be able to have their names on the monument as long as they participate somehow. The Parade
ends at Munn Park, an e-mail will be sent out requesting confirmations of displays for the park. Rolling Thunder – September 17-19 the Ride Home, POW ceremony
at Andersonville Ga. Rolling Thunder is requesting donations to assist in paying for the service provided
to the POWs for POW Day in Andersonville GA. Friday, Rolling Thunder is riding to Jacksonville to escort

starts the meeting by discussing the Veterans Memorial Park Visioning meeting at Lakeland Library at 1430 hours on Thursday, August 6. It is very important to insure that
the Veterans Organizations are represented at the meeting. The architects will be looking for ideas and
thoughts for the park. The Community
Resource Fair at the JAH VAH is on August 7, 2009, Veteran’s Organization are encouraged to participate. Vice Chairman Selvage spoke about the Veterans
Day Ceremony, Vice Admiral (Ret.) Norb Ryan will be the Key Note Speaker and he will dedicate the Veterans Organization’s
Monument. The location of the Veterans
Organization monument will have the names of the Vet Orgs on the monument but where the name goes will not be selected by
the amount of money contributed. VC
Selvage stated that he did not want to miss any of Vet Orgs just because of a couple of bucks. He wants
each unit to be recognized. Chairman
Clark stated that the PCVC is not a 501C3 so donations should be made to the Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland and they keep tract of the money. The money can only be used to support VMP. Chairman Clark spoke about music in the morning from Lakeland
Christian School; he is still working on that. He would like to invite the presidents of many of the local
Chamber of Commerce. Chairman Clark
asked the reps from the Vet Orgs to insure to invite businesses to participate in the parade. He will also
be meeting with LPD soon to work on the parade route. The Munn Park Event: we want to invite each of Polk
County Vet Org is represented at the Celebration at Munn Park, table or display. Please insure we speak
to each other about the event. Publicity is a very important issue to let people know about the event. Chairman Clark spoke about the BRAIVE Fund.
He is on the committee. The BRAIVE Fund is designed to assist 501C3 organizations which support
our Military service members. Digger - U.S.M.V.M.C. - asked about the Angle tree – Chairman Clark stated that the 116th
FA is scheduled to deploy around the beginning of next year. Chairman Clark met with Captain Adams and
Tim Day. It was decided to have Christmas in August for the unit; the details are still being worked out. Gigi from Blinded Veterans Association is participating
in a Military resource fair sponsored by Gus Bilirakus, at Tarpon Springs, August 29, 2009. Rolling Thunder – National Organization which supports
POW/MIA issues – National POW/MIA recognition day in September, info will be sent to the postmaster to be disseminated.
They invite former POWs to participate, at no cost to the Former POW. R/T is working to publicize
HR 111 re-establish the committee on POWs. R/T Chapter 6 meets at the VFW in Winter Haven; meeting is the
1st Saturday of the Month at 1100 hours. Virgil Myers– Chapter 32 of the VBoB – Pooled together 53 flags last December 16
to take to Luxembourg. They placed an American Flag and a rose on each American Grave in Luxemburg.
A small article was placed in the Luxemburg paper asking for volunteers; by 1600 hours the Luxemburg people had more
volunteers that were need during the week June 23rd . This year the VBoB had 63 Vets take the
tours in Luxemburg. Bill McCraney– KWVA – Spoke of the POWs/MIAs who have never returned from Korea. Steve Jones– CWV &
KoC – Spoke about Veterans, to include Police Veterans and Fire Veterans, men and women who serve here locally.
Citizens Police Academy is a 15-16 week course which serves to help out the local Police via scholarship funds and
K-9s. On September 11, the CWV is hosting a BBQ ($10) , at the Lake Mirror Center in
Lakeland. Please support the event to raise funds for our Local Police scholarship funds and K9 fund. If
possible Vet Orgs can sponsor a table for $250 (10 tickets and publicity). Also the KoC have a wheelchair
distribution program. If anyone needs a wheelchair, please contact Steve. Carl Barrett– NSVA – Donated a check for the PCVC
Vet Monument. Does work to support many of our local service member’s family while they are deployed.
Four Lakes Veterans
Org – W/H – Veterans Helping Veterans – 6 years of serving Veterans. Steve Terry – AMVETS – if you are aware of any military
families who need financial assistance please contact him. Paul Flagg – AL Post #4 – VAV Volunteers assisting Veterans, helping pay electric
bills and helping veterans in need. The group is built from Vets and Non-Vets, but is a big supporter of
veterans. Paul asked if they could participate in the Vet Day Parade, the answer was yes, absolutely.
Chairman Clark spoke
about the Goals of the PCVC, to assist in our national security by supporting our military and bring to light what they do,
also of the three major events we support. Next meeting, August 10, 2009 at 1700 hours, the host will be AMVETS Post #32.

Minutes from PCVC meeting- Minutes from PCVC meeting Polk County Veterans Council Meeting June 8, 2009 Host – Disabled American Veterans 1700 hours meeting commenced, Chairman Clark opened the meeting Chairman Clark asked if there was any feedback about the new VA
clinic in Lakeland. One comment was it is more efficient but less personal. One complaint
was they no longer ship medication from Tampa to Lakeland. Need more signs, hard to find unless you are
local. Chairman Clark state the
Ledger did provide some well written articles. Howard Shanks, former POW, had a mild stroke last fall, he is now in Myrtle Beach close to his son. Chairman
Clark made great comments pertaining to Mr. Shanks. Veterans Day –
Ceremony – Saturday, November 7, Vice Admiral Norb Ryan, Guest Speaker, Vice Chairman Selvage talked about buying a monument with the theme
being salute to Veterans Organizations, to be placed at Veterans Memorial Park temporarily until we can place it into the
master plan. The reason why we would like to dedicate the monument to Veterans Organization because many
Vet Orgs are over looked. The monument may be 7 feet tall, 4 sided pedestals, with engraving; the cost
is $2,000 for the monument and approximately $75 for each organization who wish to participate. The PCVC
is asking if the organizations are actually willing to participate and pitch in approximately $275 per organization.
Vice Chairman Selvage asked if anyone had any opposition to the sponsoring the monument, the consensus was to go ahead
and move forward with the monument, a request for all organization who wish to participate please send an e-mail to the Postmaster@PolkVeteransCouncil.org. VC Selvage requests a letter to be sent to all organizations explaining
the cost and monument issue. Chairman
Clark spoke about the Veterans Day Parade, allowing organizations to place floats in the parade. If anyone
knows of any veterans who would like to participate in the parade please let them know about the events. The parade route was discussed. Shawn
McCabe stepped up to organize the activities at Munn Park with more booths, more activities, Advertising
was brought up, postcards were suggested with the PCVC logo in the middle and each Veterans Organization surrounding the PCVC
logo and the route to be placed on the back. Chairman Clark introduced Tim Day from Children of Heroes, with a focus on the children of Polk County families.
Tim made a recommendation to spend the money his group collected to assist the families of the 116FA which is deploying
at the end of the year. An Angel Tree was recommended and Chairman Clark will contact Captain Adams to
see if this would be OK. If this is OK an electronic Angel tree will be posted on the PCVC website. Chairman Clark introduced Ronnie Payne, whose
son Ron Payne was KIA in Afghanistan, May 7, 2004. He spoke of the Memorial Services his church performs
the Sunday before Memorial Day. The service is to honor the families. Mr. Payne spoke
the Toys for Tots, if anyone knows of a family who has children with members deployed, please contact him. VC Chairman Selvage recommended 2010 to be the year of the Korean
War. Chairman Clark discussed the
community support we have, and his visit to Washington D.C. he recommended that we take an active role in having prospective
elective candidates come and speak to hear what their views are. If we don’t raise our voices pertaining
to our veteran’s issues, no one else will. We need to speak to our elected officials and candidates. Next Meeting: July 20, 2009 @ American Legion

Clark expressing his gratitude to those who were willing to amend this month’s schedule to accommodate his absence. Chairman Clark asked if anyone was familiar
with Bugles across America, if anyone knows of anyone interested or participates in Bugles across America; please let
the Veterans Council be aware of such individuals. Chairman Clark expressed his gratitude to those who sponsored the Polk County History Fair and if anyone would
like to help for next year’s Polk County History Fair the PCVC would gladly take advance donations. Memorial Day Services are scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2009 @ approximately 1100 hours at Lakeland Funeral Home
and Memorial Gardens. More information has been posted on the PCVC website, Memorial Day web page. Armed Forces Day at Joker Marchant Stadium with the Lakeland Fling Tigers and Bright House turned out a very
good crowd. The Kathleen JROTC handled the colors well. While Chairman Clark was in
Nanjing China he was privileged to be able to visit the Flying Tigers memorial at the base of Purple Mountain.
The PCVC had a discussion to do a better job next year and to become active in the planning stages earlier.
A request was made to have a display table with literature from all of the Veterans Organization. Vice Chairman Selvage spoke about Veterans Memorial Park. The Architectural firm of Furr & Wegman is doing the master design
of the park and wants to set up a meeting for all vested parties in June. Representatives from each organization
should plan to attend as to have voices and ideas from each of the Veterans Organizations along with representatives from
Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, and Emergency Medical Services. Veterans Day was discussed; Chairman Clark stated our guest speaker would be Vice Admiral Norbert Ryan,
USN, (Ret). The PCVC would like to dedicate a monument to represent ALL Veterans Organizations at Veterans
Memorial Park on November 7, 2009. The Cost of the monument is approximately $4,000. As
we gather more information we will post it. The monument is designed to be able to place each of Polk County’s
Veterans Organizations on it. As we gather the total cost of the monument, the more Veterans Organizations

Care – In home care, there are programs out there for Veterans, more will be posted on the PCVC website. Chairman Clark introduced Chuck Fulton,
Music Director at Lakeland Christian School (LCS). Mr. Fulton wants to find out what his organization can
do to assist Veterans. The LCS band wanted to perform a Veterans Day Concert out in the community.
Plans are still in the works but LCS would like to participate in the Veterans Day Ceremonies on November 7.
Consideration of a 30 minute concert in the Veterans Day Ceremony at approximately 0930 hours at Veterans Memorial
Park in preparation for the Veterans Day Ceremonies. Also a concert at Munn Park was proposed during the
Veterans Day Celebration at 1200 hours. Mr. Fulton stated he would have to see the areas and he would get
back with the Chairman. Captain Nate Adams – Commander A- 2/116th FA Bartow – Armory is being renovated, grand opening
planned for August 1, 2009; the Armory can be rented out for private events. The Unit is looking for sponsors

County Veterans Council January 12, 2009 Host - Cypress Lakes Veterans Association 10000 U.S. Hwy 98 N. Lakeland,
FL. 33809 Meeting proceeded @ 1700 Chairman Clark started the meeting, thanking the Cypress Lakes
Veterans Association. Chairman Clark explained the intent, goals, and mission of the PCVC. We are not here to
replace any organization, but to assist. We have 3 major issues we participate in, Veterans Day Parade, the Saturday
closet to Veterans Day. The other two events are Armed Forces Day, which is arranged with the Lakeland Flying Tigers
baseball game, and Memorial Day with a ceremony at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. The PCVC does is support JROTC
in Polk County, it looks as if we may have a JROTC honors program that may be able to proceed next fall. The PCVC is
supporting/sponsoring a speaker's bureau to speak at functions and event about veterans issues. Ron Myers, the
head of operations for the Flying Tigers, supports Armed Forces Day celebration at Tiger Town, 16 May, 2009. We are
in the process of planning for the 2009 Veterans Day. The 2008 County History Fair was discussed; it went well last
year (2008) and members of the PCVC have been invited to participate again on February 27, 2009 at the Historical
Museum in Bartow. February 4, 2009, @ 1715 hours, Football stadium in Auburndale JROTC Inspection,
the PCVC would like to have some of our members attend. Veterans of Iraq/Afghanistan conflict, scholarship from Florida
Southern College. John Hopkins spoke about the BRAIVE Fund, $15,000,000.00 given to Sarasota to help the veterans and
families from the Iraq/Afghanistan war. It appears that they are looking to form a Central Florida Veterans Coalition.
They are looking for someone who is well respected in Polk County to be a representative of Polk County. Anyone interested

@ Polk Works, spoke about the USERRA Seminar coming on January 30, 2009. He also spoke about the problem we have in
Polk County Transportation as one of our members could not attend the monthly PCVC meeting because the Veterans could not
find transportation from the Polk County Handibus. Joe asked for support from all organizations to write a letter to
the head of Polk County Transportation to rectify this problem. Joe also brought up the issue that there are jobs for

Clark opened the meeting - Reviewed Veterans Day Events, thanked everyone for a great event. Vice Chairman
Selvage also thanked everyone for the support of a great ceremony. The Next Veterans Day Event will be on November 7,
2009. Next year we will try to allocate Golf Carts for the Parade Coordination Staff. Discussion of Park events,
the survey showed Great results for the Ceremony, Great results for the Parade and Good results for Munn Park. One of
the notes was the lack of Veterans organizations that stayed at the park. Even though we did have a few Veterans Organization
there, there was still far more room for others to remain at the park. The rock climbing wall was a great hit with the
youth. Discussion was made about next year's Veterans Day Theme. Possible theme: A Salute to ALL Veterans
Organizations'. Discussion was made about how to get the word out to people in the community, trying to get people
involved. Possibly forming a speaker's bureau. The parade route lent was requested to be extended just
a bit. History Fair for 2009 is in question. Operation Care and Cheer, Polk Co. BoCC is soliciting for donations
for our soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Donation boxes are placed in various locations of the County. Discussion

– Lakeland Police Department Room 3-A The Meeting was opened by Chairman Gary Clark, Chairman Clark
spoke of the VMP park account with the Community Foundation and possibly opening a different bank account just for the Polk
County Veterans Council. He asked the council for approval to open a checking account exclusively for the conduct of
the Veterans Day celebration. The amount of funds that would be involved would be less than $500. It would be
used to defray costs of the event funded with donations. Council approved. Friday night, November
7th, is the first Friday of November and the night before the Veterans Day Parade and Events. The Downtown Lakeland
Partnership would like to make that night special and recognize all veterans for their sacrifices to our country. The
event starts at 1800 hours and all Veterans are asked to appear. Please where your respective Veterans Organization’s
attire or if not affiliated with a Veterans Organization please wear some means of identifying you as a U.S. Military Veteran.
Be proud to be a Veteran. Some video interviews have been placed on the PCVC website and a thank you is offered to Gus Garcia (LHS Student)
for a great job is editing. On October 20th three members of the PCVC were interviewed by Polk Government
TV, Mr. Gary Clark – Polk County Veterans Council Chairman, Mrs. Lisa Garcia- Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist,

the day before the Veterans Day Parade, Downtown Lakeland will have - First Friday is a monthly event in Downtown Lakeland.
Shops and restaurants stay open late, with music and entertainment along the streets. Local artists fill the sidewalks, too,

was held Saturday for Charlie Summerall. Gary encouraged all veterans to support future fundraisers for
Charlie. The Council will take the lead in “getting the word out” thru the Ledger, Radio and

Hometown Hero’s
nite at Tigertown on July 29 was a great idea sponsored by the Flying Tigers. Five veterans were honored
including four World War II vets. · Politics in the Park is scheduled for October 16 and sponsored by the Chamber
of Commerce. Veterans are to be recognized as a part of the program and will include a color guard from
AMVETS Post 32 along with special recognition of Purple Heart holders and POW’s. · Chairman Clark has submitted a Grant Application with the Greater
Lakeland Community Foundation for funds to design a Veterans’ Park master plan. · Mark Stephens is leaving WLKF radio. Mark has

Polk County Veterans Council Meeting – July 14, 2008 1700 hours (5:30 pm) The Meeting was called to order by the PCVC
Chairman – Gary Clark. 18
Members and 1 guest from Congressman Adam Putnam’s office were present. The loss of AMVETS Commander John Lane leaves a void in the PCVC Staff, a new Park Events Coordinator
was appointed, Shawn McCabe. An offer was made to AMVETS to have John Lane Jr perform at the 2008 Veterans
Day Parade Park Events. Paul Flagg
made mention that the American Legion, Post #4 still performs Flag Retirement Ceremonies. Tiger Town will be hosting a Hometown Heroes event prior to a baseball game on Tuesday July 29, 2008
at approximately 1800 hours (6 pm). The event will be honoring 5 WWII veterans and others from the Law
Enforcement and Fire Departments. All veterans are encouraged to attend. More information will be posted
as it develops. The Polk Outpost
27 (Polk County Visitors Center) is honoring Polk County Veterans, if anyone is interested in displaying any of their military
artifacts; please contact the Polk Outpost 27. Portraits
of Heroes will be providing portraits to 3 families in Polk County. Anyone or any organization wishing

has been tentatively found for the 2008 Veterans Day Parade Ceremony. An idea was proposed about placing the Military Branch flags in the Veterans Memorial Park for the
ceremony. A request was made if
anyone has a contact in the Elks Club, the Elks Club performed a breakfast a few years ago which turned out to be very well
received by the Parade participates and attendants. Paul Flagg of the American Legion Post #4 said he would
chase that contact down and report next month. The proposition of recognizing each of the attending Veterans Organizations Commander during the Veterans
Day Ceremony was well received by the council. As the position of Chair/Seat Placement is still open for the Ceremonies, Raymond said he would look into
this. The issue of the name for
Veterans Memorial Park was brought up, a request for members to think of a name that is catchy is important. A
name that can be posted at the Polk County Visitors Center and would make people want to go see the memorials is requested.
Please bring any thoughts to next month’s meeting. Joe Murray from DAV Chapter #28 suggested
leaving it Veterans Memorial Park and dividing the park in to sections, Military, LEO, Fire, EMS, others… Joe Murray – DAV, John Hopkins - Polk
Veterans Services, and Bob Fick – Cypress Lakes Veterans/Blind Vets, spoke of a transportation project for disadvantaged
veterans in Polk County and agreed to spearhead this project. More information to come as it develops. Meeting ended at approximately 1830 hours (6:30

PCVC Meeting - May 12, 2008 Meeting started at 1715 hours, Location USMVMC Club House 1323 Gary Road,
Lakeland, FL. 33801
The meeting
was started off with Gary Clark discussing the Armed Forces Day events at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. The events
info has been posted on the PCVC website. The events will start with a precession from the WLKF radio station to Joker
Marchant Stadium. The events will have a band playing in the stadium, speeches, honor guard and more. Please pass
this information on to others. All Veterans, Active Military, ROTC, and JROTC are free.
The Memorial Day Ceremonies at the Lakeland Memorial Gardens was discussed.
Sons of AMVETS will provide food. Volunteers who would like to help with the 4,000+ flags to be placed on the Veterans
grave sites should be at the Lakeland Memorial Gardens on May 17th at 0900 hours.
The Veterans Day Parade and Events was discussed, Don Selvage is in charge
of the Ceremonies. The events have been placed on the Lakeland Chamber calendar. The ceremony will have the POW/MIA
Table ceremony performed.
The
design of the 2008 Veterans Day T-shirt was distributed, the council asked for price info at the next meeting.

on June 22, 2208

Minutes from PCVC meeting- Minutes from PCVC meeting Polk County Veterans Council Monthly Meeting – 14 April, 2008 U.S. Military Veterans Motorcycle Club – Lakeland 1700 hours The PCVC Meeting commenced with opening remarks by the Chairman, Mr.
Gary Clark. Minutes from the meeting
have been placed on the PCVC website for those who may have missed a meeting so they can remain informed of what is going
on. Thursday, May 8, 2008 there
will be a Law Enforcement Officers Ceremony at the LEO monument at Veterans Memorial Park at 1000 hours, it is open to the
public and all Veterans are encourage to attend in support of our communities Law Enforcement Officers, of which, many are
Veterans. A question of changing
the name of Veterans Memorial Park was brought up and a discussion proceeded, the idea of “Memorial park had been brought
forth but during the discussion some thought the name may be just a little bit sterile and make the efforts of our nation’s
veterans lose its significance. The PCVC Chairman stated he would speak to the Chair of the Memorial Foundation
about the name change and bring the information back next month for further discussion. Veterans Day Parade and Events: An effort is being made to secure a helicopter for the events at Munn
Park. The schedule of events was
reviewed and those who volunteered to perform the events (Posted on the 2008 Veterans Day Parade web page). Mr. John Lane (AMVETS) volunteered to become
the Park Events Coordinator. Plans
are still in the process for the parade route. Publicity of the Veterans Day parade and events was taken up by Ms. Tunie Moss with help from Mr.
Gus Garcia and Mrs. Lisa Garcia. Flyers of the PCVC website were delivered around Polk County by
Mr. Gus Garcia last week and articles are now being written to the Polk Voice about Veterans Issues. Members
were asked if they have an expertise to write articles and submit them for posting in the Polk Voice. Request for the Military Recruiters was made once more, Mr.
Steve Crowley (absent) is in the process of securing them for the events at Munn Park. Mr. Bill Daniels had an update pertaining to Mr. Bill Charette (KW
Vet – CMH). He has not committed 100% to any event but would like to participate, however not as
a key note speaker. Members expressed their respect for his privacy and yet expressed how honored they
would be to have him at the events. A
request for a stage was made, Mr. Chairman stated he would check into the availability of one. Veterans Memorial Park: A discussion on fundraising was brought forth, where we stand on collecting
money for the park, (amount is posted on the PCVC website, VMP web page) The idea of selling personalized bricks for the park walkways was brought forth and received with
enthusiasm except we must reach the goal of hiring the architect first and then layout the plans for how the park will look. Mr. Digger suggested selling t-shirts at the
Veterans Day events; he will look into the cost and design. Mr. Steve Jones suggested the donation jar technique for the events at Munn Park. PCVC Meetings: A suggestion was made to hold the PCVC meetings in different locations around Polk County,
it was agreed that we must hold our meetings in different locations, Mr. Bill Daniels is going to request the VFW Post 4281
in Winter Haven for our June 9th meeting, however it was agreed upon to hold the May 12th meeting at
the USMVMC because we did not get prior approval and must have a schedule posted for our May meeting. Armed Forces Day Events: Major Ramano will be coming home from Iraq and Mr. Mark Stevens
from WLKF, Talk 1430 (radio) is planning a Welcome Home Ceremony, on May 17, 2008 from 1000 – 1300 hours (10 am –
1 pm ) at the lake Mirror Promenade. All veterans and citizens are encouraged to attend and show their
support of our men and women in the U.S. Military on Armed Forces Day. As details are developed they will
e posted on the PCVC home page. Other
Events: Mr. Joe Murray stated that
there is a plan for PDHRA (Pre-Deployment) of a local unit and requested the PCVC Veterans Organizations to participate in
the meeting to allow the Soldiers and their families know of what assistance the Veterans Organization can provide while the
soldiers are deployed. The meeting will be approximately in September and as more information is developed

Polk County Veterans Council Meeting – 03-10-08

Vets MC – 1323 Gary Rd. Lakeland, FL. 33801 Opening Comment by the Chairman of the PCVC Gary Clark (MOAA): Event – Polk County History Fair: The fair organizers send the themes to the schools; the PCVC judges reviewed the military related
displays. A plaque was awarded by the PCVC and the winner was asked to bring it back to have his name engraved
on it. The winner was the great grandson of a Soldier who participated on the D-Day invasion of Normandy.
The program received great praise and needs to continue next year maybe with more awards. One disappointment
was the lack of public school participation. Many private schools participated. The
objective of the History Fair, as it pertains to Veterans, is to make the next generation aware of what we and other have
sacrificed and served for. We need
to try to get the Solavita Veterans and Cypress Lakes Veterans and get them to the PCVC website. Veterans Day parade Planning – Overview was distributed.

Working on Float to accommodate POW/PH Honorees and is working on getting William H. Charette (CMH) from Lake Wales (Korean
War Vet) as a guest speaker, about 90% sure. Bill is also working on a back up speaker, but he’s

– Will request the Scouts to be ushers. Lisa (DAV) – Will work on getting PH soldier from DS/OIF/OEF. Gary (MOAA) – Request to members search for anyone with Golf Cart contacts for the Parade. Digger (USMVMC) – Volunteered for Barricade
Duty the day of the Veterans Day Parade. Paul (AL Post #4) – Will try to get the Quilt of Tears John (AMVETS) – Volunteered to man the Grill General Discussion – Requesting Vendors to place shop in the park during static display time.
Only drawback is vendor who may compete with any items which may be sold by Veterans Organizations. All
vendors are to be routed throw the PCVC Chairman – Gary Clark. Don (MOAA) – Any funds brought in for the Veterans Day Parade should be distributed to the Veterans
Memorial Park project. Also he asked for Memorial Day Ideas. Digger (USMVMC) – Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens has a
good program they perform every year. Info will be sent to the postmaster for posting on the website and
distribution. Gary and Don (MOAA)
– Asked for participation from the local Veterans Organizations during the Memorial Day Events. Paul (AL Post #4) – Made mention that the AL Post #4 Auxiliary
is doing a clean up of Military graves on April 6. John (AMVETS) – Requested permission to use the PCVC name for the MacDill AB Annual Picnic, April 20, 2008,
motion passed unanimously. Gary
(MOAA) – Fundraising for the Veterans Memorial Park is held by the Community Foundation and they will be moving to a
building close to him, so updates should come faster soon. Digger (USMVMC) – Showed the Missing Man Table Ceremony, it was agreed that would be an appropriate
